1. Who we are
The Fluxx is operated by The Fluxx Digital Limited, a company registered in England and Wales. For data protection purposes, we are the data controller. You can reach us at hello@fluxx.digital.
2. What we collect, and why
We try to collect as little as we need to, and to be honest about the rest.
Newsletter and Club sign-ups
When you subscribe, we collect your email address (and, if you provide them, first name and any preferences you select). We use these to send you the editorial newsletter and Club communications you've signed up for. Lawful basis: your consent under UK GDPR Article 6(1)(a). You can unsubscribe from any email; we honour that immediately.
Contact, partnership, and press enquiries
If you write to us at hello@, partnerships@, or press@, we'll have the email content and any contact information you provided. Lawful basis: our legitimate interest in responding to you (Article 6(1)(f)).
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which articles people read and where readers come from. GA4 sets cookies and collects an anonymised IP address. Lawful basis: your consent, requested via the cookie banner.
Advertising
Some pages display ads served by Gourmet Ads and its supply-side partners. These set cookies that may be used for advert measurement and ad personalisation, subject to your consent. We do not pass personal data directly to advertisers.
Affiliate tracking
Where we recommend hotels, products, or experiences, some links are affiliate links (typically Booking.com, AWIN, CJ, or direct programmes). These set cookies that let the merchant attribute a purchase back to The Fluxx so we can earn a commission. The merchant collects the purchase data, not us. You'll see a clear disclosure on every page that contains affiliate links.
Server logs
Our hosting provider records standard request logs (IP, user-agent, timestamp, URL). These are kept for up to 30 days, used only for security and debugging. Lawful basis: legitimate interest.
3. Cookies
We split cookies into three groups. The banner that appears on your first visit lets you accept or reject each group.
- Essential — required for the site to work (your consent choices, your saved items). No tracking. Always on.
- Analytics — Google Analytics 4. Helps us understand readership. Off by default; enabled only with your consent.
- Advertising — Gourmet Ads and its supply-side partners. Used to serve and measure ads. Off by default; enabled only with your consent.
You can change your cookie choices at any time using the link in the footer.
4. Who we share data with
We use a small number of trusted providers to run The Fluxx:
- MailerLite — newsletter and Club emails.
- Stripe — for any future Club paid memberships.
- Google Analytics 4 — site analytics.
- Gourmet Ads — advert delivery and measurement.
- Cloudflare — hosting, CDN, and security.
- AWIN, CJ, Booking.com, and other affiliate networks — purchase attribution from outbound links.
We don't sell personal data to anyone, and we don't allow advertisers to use our reader data outside of the ad delivery itself.
5. International transfers
Some of the providers above are based outside the UK. Where this is the case, we rely on adequacy decisions (where they exist) or on the UK International Data Transfer Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses. We pick providers with strong, documented data protection commitments.
6. How long we keep data
- Newsletter subscribers: as long as you remain subscribed, plus a short audit period after you unsubscribe.
- Email enquiries: typically two years from last contact.
- Server logs: 30 days.
- Analytics: 14 months (the GA4 default for new properties).
7. Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Have it corrected if it's wrong.
- Have it deleted, in most cases.
- Restrict or object to certain kinds of processing.
- Receive a copy of your data in a portable format.
- Withdraw consent at any time, where consent is the lawful basis.
- Complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
To exercise any of these, email hello@fluxx.digital. We aim to respond within 14 days, and always within the statutory one month.
8. Children
The Fluxx is written for adults. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you're a parent or guardian and believe a child has shared data with us, email hello@fluxx.digital and we'll remove it.
9. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we'll update the last-updated date at the top of this page, and where the changes affect existing subscribers we'll email you in advance.
