Set high above the quiet village of Puigpunyent in Mallorca’s UNESCO protected Serra de Tramuntana, Grand Hotel Son Net feels less like a hotel and more like a secret Mediterranean estate. Approached along winding roads through pine forests and terraced hillsides, the blush toned manor gradually appears among cypress trees, citrus groves and vineyard rows, a 17th century palacio that has watched over the valley since 1672.

Today the historic estate has been carefully restored as one of Mallorca’s most atmospheric boutique hotels. The transformation preserves the architectural character of the original manor while introducing richly layered interiors filled with art, antiques and expressive textiles.

A Restored Majorcan Manor Filled with Art and History

Stepping inside Grand Hotel Son Net reveals a house defined by authenticity and character. Original architectural features remain beautifully intact including carved wooden ceilings, antique fireplaces, mosaic floors and rustic beams that echo the building’s centuries old history.

The interiors balance maximalist design with traditional Majorcan craftsmanship, creating spaces that feel both elegant and deeply lived in.

Each suite reveals its own distinctive atmosphere, drawing inspiration from European decorative traditions and historic influences. Marble bathrooms sit beside antique furniture and upholstered reading chairs, while frescoed ceilings and intricate detailing remind guests that this was once a noble country residence.

Across the property, thirty-one individually designed suites extend from the main manor into garden cottages scattered across the estate. Many offer private terraces overlooking the Puigpunyent valley and the surrounding Tramuntana mountains.

Gardens, Terraces and the Slow Rhythm of Mallorca

Life at Son Net unfolds at the gentle pace of the Mediterranean countryside.

Mornings begin on sun filled terraces where breakfast arrives with local fruit, pastries and coffee while the valley slowly warms beneath the rising sun. Afternoons drift between the estate’s gardens and the outdoor pool which appears to hover above the landscape.

Olive groves, citrus trees and vineyard rows surround the manor, while landscaped gardens create quiet corners and shaded terraces that invite long afternoons outdoors. Dining reflects the same connection to place. Seasonal menus draw on Mallorcan produce and Mediterranean traditions, served on terraces that frame sweeping views of the mountains.

A new spa and wellness center adds another dimension to the experience, offering treatment rooms, thermal facilities and a heated pool that looks out across the surrounding countryside.

Exploring the Tramuntana Mountains

Grand Hotel Son Net sits within one of the most beautiful landscapes in the Balearic Islands.

The Serra de Tramuntana mountains stretch across Mallorca’s northwest coast, forming a dramatic UNESCO protected landscape of limestone ridges, terraced farmland and ancient villages. Hiking routes and cycling roads weave through the region connecting historic towns such as Valldemossa, Deia and Soller.

Despite its rural setting, the hotel is located just twenty minutes from Palma, making it possible to combine the cultural life of the island’s capital with the tranquillity of a countryside retreat.

A Boutique Hotel That Feels Like Another World

In a destination often defined by beaches and summer crowds, Grand Hotel Son Net reveals a quieter side of Mallorca.

Here the atmosphere is shaped by history, art and landscape. Rooms filled with patterned textiles and antique fireplaces feel like private chambers within an old Mediterranean palace, while gardens scented with citrus and pine frame views across the mountains.

For travellers seeking design, heritage and a sense of place, Grand Hotel Son Net offers one of the most atmospheric stays on the island.
